Church History

A Humble Beginning

Metro Church of God was established on July 7, 1985 with 10 founding families and Rev. T. V. George as the Senior Pastor. Inaugural services were led by Rev. James Smith, the District Superintendent of Church of God, Weatherford TX. In 1986, we bought our first church building in South Dallas. It was a humble beginning, but God enabled us to worship him there in spirit and truth. Though the building was small, the joy of the Lord was great in that place. Many of us were filled with the Holy Spirit, and God continued to lead us astoundingly. God also called a few of our young people for his ministry, and the church began supporting mission works as well as missionaries in India.

In 1993, through God's provision we acquired a larger facility in Irving. God's presence was evident there through the spirit filled Church services, prayer meetings, youth meetings and Sunday school that took place there. Our unity and Christian love towards one another helped us to bring forth new believers in Christ and strengthened our church. Our support for the poor in India also grew through charitable works such as feeding people, buying clothes, and helping to start orphanages. Also through God's hand we began to greatly support the missionaries suffering for the sake of the gospel in North India. Our Pastor's wife, Grace George, was the promoter for all our gospel and charitable work. She was always a good example and encouragement for the expansion of the kingdom of God.

In 1998, an unexpected tragedy befell our church family when Pastor T.V. George and Grace faced a severe accident on a road trip that resulted fatally for Grace and grave bodily trauma for our Pastor. Grace's sudden departure was a most difficult time for our church, and although we struggled with this event, God strengthened each of us day by day, especially our Pastor and his family. It was only by God's grace and His compassion that our pastor could completely recover from the accident and work powerfully for the Lord. With our pastor's ardent love and great faith towards God, Metro Church of God was able to stand strong and go forward with a vision.

A New Home

Our vision to gain more souls for the Lord was foremost. We put our faith in the power of prayer, and gave much importance to fasting and prayer that was conducted every month. Through the growth of believers, we began fervently praying for a better and larger church facility. In one of our fasting meetings, through a prophetic word, God revealed to us that we would begin building a church, and even provided a description of the property that would house the building. By faith we acquired 2 ½ acres of land in Farmers Branch. In preparation for the new church building, we sold the property in Irving and began to rent a facility for the church services. For more than a year we accommodated our church family using the facilities of a hotel. Later, God opened the doors for us to rent a church facility for almost two years near the site of our future church. In our times of concern, God proved Himself faithful, and provided for all our needs. The construction of the new church was never easy, but the faithful voice of God permitted us to pursue this goal with perseverance. By God's grace, we were able to finish the work of the church building in the year of 2004, marking God's time and plan for the completion of this endeavor.

Recently,  Rev T.V. George retired from his pastoral duties.  Under the leadership of Senior Pastor A.M. Georgekutty and our newly appointed Full-Time Pastor Satish Kumar, and with the assistance of other men and women of God, we are pursuing the destiny that the Lord has given Metro Church of God, and allowing the Lord to take us to greater heights. What God has done, and is doing, should fill us with gratitude and awe, and should deepen our faith and prayer in understanding God's vision for us in the coming days.
